Fraud Alert: How to Spot and Avoid USCIS Impersonation Scams
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has received reports of individuals receiving unsolicited phone calls from scammers posing as USCIS representatives or other immigration-related organizations, such as SAVE.
These callers may:
Ask about your immigration status or case;
Request personal or financial information; and
Use technology to make the caller ID appear as a government agency or other legitimate number.
If you receive an unexpected call claiming to be from USCIS:
Do not provide personal, financial, or immigration-related information;
Be cautious of anyone who pressures you to act immediately or threatens negative consequences; and
Hang up and contact USCIS through official channels if you have questions about your case or immigration benefits.
USCIS may contact customers, employers, employees, or agencies in connection with SAVE or E-Verify cases, account management, compliance activities, or program operations. Customers should remain cautious of callers requesting immigration-related information, money, financial information, or other sensitive personal information.
